Rocks Lane began over 30 years ago with the ethos of sport for everyone. Rocks Lane’s roots were laid down at Rocks Lane Recreation Ground in Barnes, London SW13 and has since spread to communities across London.
Rocks Lane Centres have created countless sporting opportunities for children, adults and coaches enabling them to play, learn, compete and inspire whilst promoting inclusivity, friendship, fair play and fun.
Chris Warren, the visionary co-owner along with Liz Bolton developed Rocks Lane in June 1992.
Chris has subsequently been instrumental in bringing padel to the UK.
With a passion for tennis and a keen eye for innovation, Chris has complemented the sporting offering at Rocks Lane Chiswick and Barnes with padel. Padel has been the catalyst to unite the Rocks Lane sporting community of tennis, football and netball by fostering a vibrant, enthusiastic and inclusive community of players.
“It all started with playing tennis. Then, during a family trip to Spain, I encountered this unusual form of tennis. Someone said, “Hey, it’s padel.” We had so much fun on the court that I thought this could become popular back home at Rocks Lane. That’s how it all began.”
Chris and his family harbour a passion for sport. Chris played football for Doncaster as a child and tennis later on and grabbed every opportunity to progress whilst being encouraged along the way by his sports loving and supportive parents, Alan & Margaret Warren.
Chris continued his journey with tennis, competing for his club, school and gained a scholarship at university where he competed internationally for GB in the European Collegiate Games and in the Wimbledon Qualifying Competition.
He then continued his sporting career qualifying as the youngest Professional Coach in the UK and coaching both in the community inspiring the next generation of players and on the ATP Tour with professional players.
Latterly, Chris has represented GB in two World and one European Padel Championships alongside his brother, Andrew.
Chris has channeled his sporting passion to drive inclusivity in sport and to enable lots of people to play, learn and compete at all Rocks Lane centres.
Chris said,
“We have based our philosophy at Rocks Lane on the feelings, desires, hopes and dreams of every child who has ever kicked, thrown or caught a ball. Everyone is welcome to play, learn, compete and have fun at all of our Rocks Lane Centres with free to play programmes for children and adults to our professional level performance academy – everyone has an opportunity to reach their potential.”
